Ride & Stride Program

The Ride & Stride program is an award-winning innovative behaviour change program designed to get more Merri-bek kids riding, striding and scooting to school.

Merri-bek City Council work closely with schools to understand specific barriers to active travel in their local area and deliver a tailored suite of initiatives to encourage more active trips to and from the school gates.

The aim is to have more children feeling safe, confident and able to walk or ride around their local neighbourhoods, and by 2030 for 80% of all trips to our schools to be made via sustainable forms of transport; whether this be by foot, bike, scooter or public transport.

The program will run four times across the school calendar in 2026 and to help coordinate the sessions we need a minimum of five school community volunteers. Just once per term, before or after school (or both!). You’ll be helping with set-up, pack down and assisting with the road closures, all while helping our kids to feel safe and confident on the streets of Brunswick!
